1927 E210 York Caramels Type 1 PSA-Graded Complete Set (60)
Starting Bid - $2,500.00, Sold For - $11,850.00
Extremely rare complete set of 1927 E210 York Caramels (Type 1) cards. Of the sixty cards in the set, included are an incredible thirty-one Hall of Famers highlighted by Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb. All sixty cards are graded and encapsulated by PSA with grades ranging from Very Good to Near-Mint. This assembly currently ranks second on the PSA Set Registry All-Time Finest list with a 4.88 GPA and is the only set to reach 100% completion on either the PSA or SGC Set Registries. Eleven cards are the highest-graded example while twenty-six cards have only one card graded higher. This is one of the few major issues of the late 1920s and one that is very rarely seen in complete set form. In fact, this is only the third complete set of E210 York Caramels that we have ever offered. This is an extraordinary set, in exceptionally high grade for the issue, which has been assembled by an extremely dedicated collector over a period of many years. PSA condition composite: NM 7 (1 card): #44 Alexander (HOF, highest graded). EX-MT+ 6.5 (1 card): #46 Terry (HOF, highest graded). EX-MT 6 (11 cards): #9, 10 Sewell (HOF, highest graded), 13 Hornsby (HOF, highest graded), 15, 23 Schalk (HOF), 27 Cobb (HOF), 29, 39, 48, 50 Frisch (HOF), and 54 Sisler (HOF, highest graded). VG-EX+ 4.5 (1 card): #60. VG-EX 4 (17 cards): #2, 5 Hartnett (HOF), 6 Ruth (HOF), 16 Rixey (HOF), 17, 18, 25 Wilson (HOF), 34, 37, 38, 40, 41 Harris (HOF), 47 E. Collins (HOF), 53 Roush (HOF), 56, 58, and 59. VG 3 (5 cards): #1 Grimes (HOF), 4 Faber (HOF), 21, 51, and 57 Coveleski (HOF). The E210 York Caramel set is identical in design to several other issues of the era, such as Tharp's Ice Cream, Sweetman, and Harrington's Ice Cream, but with advertising for the "York Caramel Co." of York, Pennsylvania, on the reverse. Collectors have always appreciated the rarity and primitive charm of this distinctive candy issue. York Caramels appear to have been regionally issued, as they are rarely found outside of the Pennsylvania area. This is an extraordinary complete set of these distinctive and rare 1920s cards. Total: 60 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000/$10,000+.
