1922 Zeenut PCL Near-Complete Set (156/162) Including Lazzeri Rookie and Cueto

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $4,147.50

Near-complete set of 156 different 1922 Zeenut cards featuring Pacific Coast League players, highlighted by the rookie card of Hall of Famer Tony Lazzeri, and also Manuel Cueto. Missing only Brovold, Hannah, Richardson, Schulte/Oak, Smith, and Thorpe (which is offered separately in this auction) for completion. The 1922 Zeenut set is comprised of players from eight different teams (Los Angeles, Oakland, Portland, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Seattle, and Vernon). A near-complete set such as this is very rarely seen. While the cards in this collection would technically grade very modestly due to varying degrees of writing on the reverse of all cards (except for five), they present much better than their technical grades might suggest. Without reference to the writing on their reverses, condition is 25% Vg-Ex to Ex, 35% Vg, and 40% Pr to Gd (mostly Gd). We have selected three cards to be graded by SGC. Keys: Tony Lazzeri (POOR 10), Cueto (POOR 10), and King (VG 40). As is usually the case with Zeenuts, the coupon at the bottom of each card has been clipped away, as intended, to be redeemed for valuable prizes. Also as is usually the case with Zeenuts, most of the cards have a far superior appearance than suggested by their technically accurate modest grades. This "comes with the territory" with Zeenuts. This near-complete set is part of a large original-owner Zeenut collection, consigned to this auction by the family of the gentleman who collected these cards as a child, which we have broken down into smaller lots by year. Total: 156 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $4,147.50
