1932 to 1936 Zeenut PCL Collection (290) Including Near-Complete Sets
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $7,110.00
Addendum: The printed catalog mistakenly identified forty-three cards as part of the 1933-1936 Zeenut series when in fact they were part of the 1937-1938 series. The description below reflects this change and outlines the contents of each partial or near-complete set.
Offered is a large collection of 290 Zeenut PCL cards dating from 1932 to 1938, the final years of production for this long-running series featuring members of the various Pacific Coast League teams. This collection consists of cards from four different sets in varying stages of completion. Zeenuts are extraordinary and interesting cards that are always popular among collectors. 1) 1932 Partial Set (88 cards): 86 different, representing 73% of a complete set. Duplicates are Miljus and Welsh. 2) 1933 Sepia Near-Complete Set (43 cards): 42 different, missing only Bottarini, Chozen, Cronin, Galan, McQuaid, and Zinn for completion. Duplicate of Steinbacker. Condition is 29% Vg, 28% Fr-Gd, and 43% Pr or lesser. 3) 1933-1936 Near-Complete Set (116 cards): 114 different. Condition is 10% Vg-Ex to Ex, 31% Gd to Vg, and 59% Pr to Fr. Condition is 53% Vg to Vg-Ex and 47% Fr to Gd. In each of these four sets, some of the lesser-graded cards have been downgraded due to writing on the reverse, which naturally "comes with the territory" with Zeenuts, but the cards may present much better from the front. As is usually the case with Zeenuts, the coupon at the bottom of each card has been clipped away, as intended, to be redeemed for valuable prizes. This impressive group is part of a comprehensive Zeenut collection that has been broken down by year into a number of smaller but still very substantial lots. Total: 290 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+.
