1922 V61 Neilson's Chocolate (Type 1) Collection Including Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb (95)

This 1922 V61 Neilson's Chocolate (Type 1) collection of 94 different players (out of 120 in the set, plus one duplicate for a total of 95 cards) is highlighted by sixteen Hall of Famers, including Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and Walter Johnson. The V61 Neilson's Chocolate series is one of the most substantial and overlooked sets from the 1920s. This classic 1920-era issue includes many of the great stars and Hall of Famers of the decade. Issued one card per chocolate bar, Neilson's Chocolate cards are almost never found in high grade (especially the Type 1 cards, which are printed on somewhat thin stock, with slightly glossy surfaces that are so easily creased). Condition: fifty-six grade Vg, thirty Gd, and nine Pr to Fr. This is a newly discovered collection that has not seen the light of day since 1922! It is a very impressive group with most (if not all) cards appearing stronger than their technically accurate assigned grades. We have selected three cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. The group is fairly consistent condition and, as can be seen at a glance, includes many highlights. This is a very impressive start toward the assembly of a complete set of this very scarce and overlooked early 1920s issue. Large collections of V61s are rarely seen or offered. Includes sixteen Hall of Famers. While there is no SMR listing for this set, the values for these cards do add up quickly, especially due to the key Hall of Famers. (As a point of reference: we found a PSA GOOD 2 Ruth that sold at auction for $1,762 and a PSA VG 3 Cobb has sold for $1,610.) This is the largest collection of V61 Type 1 cards we have ever offered.
