1921 Koester Bread SGC-Graded Collection (8) Including Three Hall of Famers
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $948.00
Collection of eight cards, including three Hall of Famers, from the 1921 Koester Bread set. All eight cards have been graded and encapsulated by SGC: Barnes (VG 40), Brown (VG/EX 50), Hugh Jennings (HOF, VG 40), George Kelly (HOF, VG 40), John McGraw (HOF, VG/EX 50), McNally (VG/EX 50), Meusel (EX 60), and Nehf (EX 60). The 1921 World Series between the Yankees and Giants was the first New York "subway series." The Koester Bread set was issued to commemorate the series, and features the players, managers, and coaches of each team. The cards were distributed in October 1921 by E. H. Koester, a New York bakery. Cards from this unique regional issue are very similar to blank-backed versions of the E121 American Caramel series cards, but are printed on higher-quality, thicker stock. Of special note: several of the players in this issue do not appear in the American Caramel sets, including two of the subjects offered in this collection: Barnes and Brown. This is a very impressive looking collection of eight 1921 Koester Bread cards, including three Hall of Famers and, of even greater note to advanced collectors, two cards that do not appear at all in the related E121 American Caramel card sets. Total: 8 cards. Reserve $400. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $948.00
