1917-1920 M101-6 Felix Mendelsohn Ty Cobb

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $5,925.00

Rarely offered M101-6 Felix Mendelsohn Ty Cobb graded POOR 10 by SGC. The M101-6 set was produced by Chicago publisher Felix Mendelsohn and offered in the pages of The Sporting News over a period of several years (approximately 1917 thru 1920). This card of Ty Cobb is one of the key cards to this rare set. Though technically accurate, the modest SGC-assigned grade on this particular card does not tell the whole story as it clearly (as can easily be seen) presents at a much superior level! The image of Cobb batting is exceptionally crisp with flawless registration and no creases or wrinkles visible on front or back. The corners display wear consistent with a Vg to Vg-Ex example and the blank reverse is clean. Three pinholes, present in the two top corners and in the center of the bottom border, account for the technically accurate harsh grade and do not significantly distract from the overall presentation of this card. A very attractive example of this rare Ty Cobb card that would be a worthy addition and highlight in any Ty Cobb, Hall of Fame, or classic prewar-card collection. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+.
