1914 E145 Cracker Jack #30 Ty Cobb

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $5,332.50

Graded POOR 10 by SGC. Outstanding technically low-grade example of #30 Ty Cobb from the classic 1914 Cracker Jack series originating from the family of the original owner. The 1914 Cracker Jack Ty Cobb is universally recognized as one of card collecting's great classics, and one of Ty Cobb's most desirable and striking cards. Cobb is featured on this card in a batting pose set against a deep red background. Two tiny pinholes are present along the top border and account for the low technical grade despite the superior appearance. Bright and crisp, both front and back, with just a hint of very light honest caramel staining, common to 1914 Cracker Jack cards, which are almost always found with serious caramel staining. The card is very well centered with bold colors, even wear to the corners, and a small bend in the upper left corner. It is unusual to find this classic card in such a modest grade and with such great eye-appeal, and this rare combination makes this example potentially a particularly extraordinary collecting value. Interesting provenance note: This card has been consigned directly from the family of the original owner (along with sixty-six additional 1914-1915 Cracker Jack cards, which are offered together in this auction as a separate lot). This is a very attractive example of one of the most important of all Cracker Jack or Ty Cobb cards, and one that would be a significant highlight in many types of collections. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $5,332.50
