1911 M116 Sporting Life SGC-Graded Hall of Fame Collection (6)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,133.00

Collection of six high-quality Hall of Famers from the M116 Sporting Life set. All six cards have been graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submitted by REA). SGC condition composite: EX 60 (3 cards): John McGraw, Eddie Plank, and Vic Willis. All three HOFers graded Ex are naturally strong cards, but Plank is particularly sharp and to our eye looks stronger than its SGC-assigned grade. VG/EX 50 (2 cards): Hughie Jennings (pastel) and Tris Speaker. Speaker is particularly strong for the grade. It is crisp and clean, with huge borders and sharp corners. Downgraded by SGC due to a hint of abrasion in the upper left corner on reverse; we grade Speaker slightly higher than SGC. Authentic: Joe Tinker (black back, very slight apparent trim along bottom border; nice-looking card with Excellent appearance). Many collectors consider M116 one of the era's most exceptional values. Despite being so similar in design to their T206 counterparts, M116s in general are actually far rarer. In comparing the price guide values of M116s and T206 cards of the same Hall of Famers in the same grades, it is hard not to appreciate the outstanding value of the six quality Hall of Fame Sporting Life cards in this lot. The equivalent SMR value for the assigned grades exceeds $1,805 (there is no SMR value for the Authentic Tinker). Total: 6 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+. SOLD FOR $2,133.00
