1910 to 1940 SGC-Graded Prewar Sample-Card Collection (6)

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,066.50

Collection of six different sample cards from six classic prewar sets. Each card is graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submitted by REA). Our consignor purchased these cards in the years 1989 to 1991 (approximately), before the advent of professional grading, as Nr/Mt-Mt examples with outstanding presentation. In those days, centering was often of less importance than sharp corners, which the cards reflect, and the centering issues have contributed to slightly lower technical grades due to centering on a few of the cards here. Each card is very attractive, bright and crisp, with bold colors. 1) 1910-1911 M116 Sporting Life: Jack Barry (NM/MT 88). 2) 1911 T205 Gold Border: Fred Merkle (EX+ 70, Piedmont back). 3) 1915 E145 Cracker Jack: #78 Fred Merkle (NM 84). 4) 1933 R319 Goudey: #110 Leon "Goose" Goslin (EX/NM 80, HOF). 5) 1935 R327 Diamond Stars: #66 Joe "Ducky" Medwick (EX+ 70, HOF). 6) 1940 R335 Play Ball: #171 Harry Heilmann (VG 40, HOF). This is a very attractive group of prewar cards containing several highlights and providing relatively affordable alternatives to higher-graded examples without sacrificing eye-appeal. The equivalent SMR value for the six graded cards is $1,125. Total: 6 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+.
