1909-1911 T206 White Border Collection (28) - All Tolstoi Backs

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $5,332.50

Collection of twenty-eight tobacco cards from the T206 White Borders series, highlighted by three Hall of Famers, each with the Tolstoi tobacco advertisement on the reverse. The offering of a T206 collection such as this, all with Tolstoi backs, is extremely rare and unusual. Tolstoi is a scarce back, certainly not in the same league as Drum or Uzit, but seen far less often than most other T206 advertising backs. Each card has been encapsulated by SGC with almost all the cards grading VG/EX or better. The collection is comprised of the following: EX/NM 80 (2 cards): Chance/yellow portrait (HOF) and Overall/hand face level. EX 60 (1 card): Street/catching. VG/EX 50 (17 cards): Ames/hands above head, Barbeau, Bradley/with bat, Chappelle, Devore, Howell/hand at waist, Lattimore, Lavender, Lord, Payne, Reulbach/no glove, Schaefer/Washington, Schlei/batting, Schulte/back view, Seymour/portrait, Steinfeldt/with bat, and White/pitching. VG 40 (3 cards): Geyer, Leifield/batting, and Strang. GOOD 30 (4 cards): Demmitt/NY, McQuillan/with bat, Meyers, and Wheat (HOF). POOR 10 (1 card): Marquard/portrait (HOF). The Tolstoi advertisement on each card is bold and unobstructed (except for minor soiling on two lower-graded examples). The equivalent SMR value (not including any premium for the Tolstoi backs) is $2,811. T206 back collecting, of course, is a very popular (and growing!) area of collector interest, and this is an extremely substantial and desirable collection of very high quality T206s with Tolstoi tobacco advertising backs. Total: 28 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $2,000+++. SOLD FOR $5,332.50
