1909-1911 T206 White Border Collection (176)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $6,517.50

Collection of 176 different cards from the T206 White Border set highlighted by Hall of Famers Jack Chesbro, Rube Marquard, John McGraw, and Bobby Wallace, as well as Black Sox star Chick Gandil. This is a particularly interesting group as all the cards were part of an original scrapbook that has been carefully disassembled, leaving the scrapbook paper affixed to each reverse. The fronts are mostly well preserved, presenting as Gd to Vg overall with four better and thirty-seven lesser. Presumably, the scrapbook paper that remains on the back of each card could be carefully removed and may possibly yield rare back variations that would render the technical grade inconsequential. Keys: Chesbro (Gd), Doyle/N.Y. (Gd/Vg), Gandil (Vg), Marquard/pitching (Vg), McGraw/hand at hip (Fr), and Wallace (Pr). This lot is ideal for the collector who wants real, original circa 1910 tobacco cards which capture the spirit of the history of the game and collecting, but does not want to spend a fortune. We very much enjoy offering low-grade groups like these when we have the opportunity because they make the collecting of the most classic baseball-card issues possible and more accessible to a wider audience. The cards in this lot represent a remarkable one-third of a complete set of 1909-1911 T206 White Borders and present the opportunity to acquire a very substantial, yet relatively affordable, collection that could serve as the foundation to the assembly of a T206 set. Total: 176 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $6,517.50
