1909-1911 T206 Ty Cobb - Red Background

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,777.50

Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Crisp, clean, very attractive mid-grade example of this classic tobacco card of Hall of Famer Ty Cobb. The Red Background pose has long been considered one of the most classic of all Ty Cobb cards. Bright and clean, both front and back, with a bold red background, no creases, perfect centering, and even wear to the corners. Sweet Caporal reverse. The card is slightly overgraded in our opinion due to a couple of tiny spots of surface paper loss to the right of Cobb's neck and a third one on Cobb's jersey. It is still a great-looking card. This is a very attractive example of one of Cobb's most famous cards from the premier tobacco issue of the 1910 era that, while not costing a fortune, is and will always be a true vintage-card collecting classic. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,777.50
