Collection of Bob Feller Cleveland Indians Stadium Pins (4)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,777.50
One of the great things about pin collecting is that just when you think you've seen everything, there is always something new and exciting that is discovered. Presented is a collection of four fascinating 1950s pins dedicated to Cleveland Indians Hall of Famer Bob Feller. This particular pin design will be familiar to serious pin collectors at a glance, as it is a well known one-pin "set" that has always been highly regarded by pin and Indians collectors alike. However, this Bob Feller stadium pin design has previously been seen by us only in a gray-and-white color scheme. This offering is of very special note as each pin is in a different, previously unseen color scheme: blue-and-white, green-and-white, orange-and-white, and violet-and-white. In all our years, we have never seen this pin in any color other than the traditional gray-and-white. Each pin measures 2.25 inches in diameter and remains in overall Excellent to Near Mint condition with light rusting present on the reverse interior. These were the only baseball pins found in an very large, extremely advanced old-time pin collection (featuring all types of pins) which has been assembled over a period of decades and numbers into the thousands. There were actually five Feller pins in total in the collection (the four different colors are all offered here). The one duplicate has been kept by our consignor. We have seen traditional gray-and-white Feller pins in this style sell for in the low hundreds of dollars each ($200 to $300) on numerous occasions. We're not sure if these pins in unusual colors are early proofs from the manufacturer to help decide how they will look when produced for sale (very possible), or these pins were sold at ballparks in these colors (unlikely in our opinion, or we would have seen others over the years), but whatever the story is, they are fascinating previously unseen (by us) baseball pinback rarities. We don't know what premium (if any) collectors will place on these due to their unusual colors, but we are sure that the auction process will yield a true value for this collection of four interesting and potentially unique color variations. These four pins would make outstanding additions to any advanced Bob Feller, Cleveland Indians, or pin collection. Total: 4 pins. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,777.50
