1966 Topps "Batman" Real Photo - Riddler Back Unopened Wax Box (24 Packs)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $5,036.25

Extremely rare complete unopened wax box from the 1966 Topps "Batman" Real Photo - Riddler Back issue. This box houses twenty-four five-cent wax packs, each containing four cards, a secret decoder (used to read riddles on the card reverses), and a stick of gum, for a total of ninety-six cards. Batman took the world by storm in 1966 with the introduction of the wildly popular Batman television series and the subsequent feature film. Topps joined the bandwagon with several series of card sets devoted to the Caped Crusader. This classic 38-card set features crisp, photographic images of various scenes directly from the film starring Adam West as Batman. Each card reverse contains details on the depicted scene as well as a "Riddler's Riddle" on the bottom (for which the included decoder is used). The offered wax box has been beautifully preserved throughout the years. The interior packs all present Nr/Mt-Mt with a cartoon image of Batman on the front of each pack. The display box, which features a spectacular color photograph of Batman and Robin on the top panel, is also in very high grade with barely any handling wear visible. The die-cut top panel, intended to be punched out for store display, is only partially punched. While it is impossible to provide guarantees with reference to grading of unopened material, there is, of course, the very real possibility that within this box are Mint or Gem Mint cards from this set. This is a very rare wax box, surviving in extraordinary condition, from this popular 1960s Topps nonsport issue. Total: 24 packs. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+. SOLD FOR $5,036.25
