1955 Times Confectionary "Roy Rogers" Hoard - Approximately 16,000 cards!!

Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $711.00

Presented is an astounding hoard of approximately 16,000 cards from the 1955 Times Confectionary "Roy Rogers" series issued in the United Kingdom. In 1955, Times Confectionary in the United States issued two sets of twenty-four cards with Roy Rogers Bubble Gum depicting its namesake in various scenes from each of his two movies, South of Caliente and In Old Amarillo. Each card was numbered on front above a photographic image from one of the films, with a description of the scene and the name of the featured movie on the reverse. The British version features the exact same pictures on front but instead are blank-backed. A total of forty-four different cards are represented in this hoard in quantities ranging from two to 2,100. Twenty cards have fewer than one hundred examples present while eight have more than 900. In the absence of a visual checklist, and because most checklists only identify cards as "Roy Rogers," we cannot be sure how many cards from each set are represented. These cards come to us directly from England where they appear to have been stored since the year of issue. Almost all of the cards present in Nr/Mt or better condition but display varying degrees of natural bowing (related to the photographic surface and relatively thin stock of the cards). Some of the lower-graded cards exhibit severely misprinted or miscut images but are otherwise sharp and crisp. This is an extremely sizable and unlikely find (direct from England!) of cards from this 1955 nonsport issue. Total: Approximately 16,000 cards. Reserve $400. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $711.00
