1947 R773 Goudey Indian Gum PSA-Graded Complete Set (96) Plus Wrapper: Goudey's Final Set!

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $4,147.50

Magnificent high-grade complete set of R773 Indian Gum containing ninety-six cards. Each card is graded and encapsulated by PSA. This is the highest-grade complete set of 1947 Goudey Indians we have ever offered! R773 Goudey Indian Gum is a fascinating and very historic set. In 1947, Goudey Gum attempted to reenter the bubble-gum card market following WWII, reprinting ninety-six cards from one of its most successful sets of the 1930s, "Indian Gum." The fronts feature the very same artwork of the Indian Gum cards issued by Goudey in the 1930s. The reverses have a slightly different design than their 1930s counterparts, and are printed in black ink (as opposed to the green ink of the 1930s issue). Goudey's 1947 efforts were apparently not very successful as they were never heard from again. This series represents Goudey's very last card set. If this set had been a hit, we might have seen Goudey battling with Topps and Bowman in the bubble-gum card wars of the early 1950s. PSA grading composite: MINT 9 (1 card): #68 (OC). NM-MT 8 (12 cards): #10, 28, 36, 52 (OC), 57, 59 (OC), 64 (MC), 73, 74, 81, 86, and 90 ( OC). NM 7 (31 cards): #4, 8, 9, 11, 12, 14, 15, 23, 26, 30, 31, 32, 38, 44, 46, 48, 54, 56, 58, 61, 62, 63, 65, 66, 69, 79, 82, 83, 85, 87, and 92. EX-MT+ 6.5 (1 card): #27. EX-MT 6 (29 cards): #2, 3, 6, 7, 17, 19, 22, 24, 29, 33, 34, 35, 39, 42, 50, 53, 55, 60, 67, 70, 71, 75, 76, 77, 80, 84, 89, 93, and 96. EX+ 5.5 (3 cards): #25, 37, and 95. EX 5 (12 cards): #1, 5, 13, 18, 20, 21, 40, 41, 43, 45, 47, and 91. VG-EX+ 4.5 (1 card): #51. VG-EX 4 (5 cards): #16, 49, 72, 88, and 94. VG 3 (1 card): #78. Also included is an original Indian Gum wrapper in outstanding condition with normal fold lines visible. The PSA Sports Market Report does not list values for this set, but it is safe to say that high-grade examples of these 1940s gum cards are very desirable among collectors. This is a beautiful complete set of this colorful and historically extremely significant final Goudey issue in an extremely high grade. Total: 96 cards plus one wrapper. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+. SOLD FOR $4,147.50
