Extremely Rare 1930s R25 American Chicle "Thrilling Stories" Booklets Complete Set (60)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $7,110.00

Complete set of sixty "Thrilling Stories" booklets issued by American Chicle in the 1930s. For years collectors thought the set was complete at thirty booklets, but it was later discovered that the set consisted of sixty booklets. This is one of the all-time classic 1930s nonsport sets. Eight different characters (Corporal Blake, Crafty Keen, Flash Brown, Hal Hunter, Mirtho the Clown, Operator 7, Reckless Steele, and Yip Roper) are featured in seven- or eight-card subsets in this rare 1930s issue. Twenty booklets range from Vg-Ex to Ex-Mt, and forty booklets are slightly lesser (mostly Vg). This set is in extremely high grade, especially for these somewhat fragile eight-page booklets which are naturally so susceptible to damage. At first glance the entire set appears Excellent. Most examples graded less than Vg-Ex have been downgraded due to very technical concerns, such as a very light crease or tiny tear. Each booklet is crisp, perfectly flat, and obviously unread. It is remarkable that the set has survived in such extraordinary condition. The "Thrilling Stories" booklets are among the most desirable of all 1930s "R" issues. This is a stunning high-grade set of this condition-sensitive issue, and this is the first complete set of this rare 1930s issue that we have ever seen offered. Total: 60 booklets. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $7,110.00
