1891 N20 Allen & Ginter "Prize and Game Chickens" Complete SGC-Graded Set (50)

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,896.00

Complete set of fifty 1891 Allen & Ginter "Prize and Game Chickens" cards, all graded and encapsulated by SGC. Presented is a very attractive complete set of these colorful tobacco cards. This is a very strong set across the board, with almost all cards having a far superior appearance to the harsh SGC-assigned grades (as is often the case with nineteenth-century tobacco cards). Many cards have nearly imperceptible glue or scrapbook residue on the reverse which has affected their technical grades but does not impact the consistently strong appearance of nearly every card within this set. In the following condition composite, cards are identified by the numbers provided by the American Tobacco Cards Price Guide checklist. The SGC grades are as follows: Three NM 84: #11, 30, and 32. One EX/NM+ 82: #6. Three EX/NM 80: #21, 24, and 45. Five EX+ 70: #18, 26, 28, 33, and 42. Five EX 60: #3, 16, 17, 36, and 48. Three VG/EX+ 55: #5, 10, and 14. Four VG/EX 50: #22, 27, 31, and 46. Three VG+ 45: #1, 15, and 20. Ten VG 40: #8, 13, 23, 29, 34, 35, 39, 44, 47, and 50. Five GOOD+ 35: #4, 7, 19, 25, and 41. Six GOOD 30: #2, 9, 12, 37, 39, and 43. Two FAIR 20: #38 and 49. This is a rarely offered and very attractive nineteenth-century nonsport tobacco-card set with outstanding eye-appeal. Total: 50 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $1,896.00
