1889 N117 Duke "Industries of States" Complete Set (25)

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,422.00

Rarely offered complete set of twenty-five 1889 N117 Duke "Industries of States" cards, one of the nineteenth century's most popular and colorful tobacco cards, with thirteen cards grading Vg to Vg-Ex and twelve cards lesser due to paper loss or pencil writing on the reverse. This is a very presentable set across the board, with almost all cards having a superior appearance to the technical grades (as is often the case with nineteenth-century tobacco cards). This exceptionally colorful set was issued with Duke's Honest Long Cut and Gail & Ax's Navy Long Cut tobacco brands (both are represented in this set). Each card (2-1/2 x 4-3/16 inches) features a colorful, graphically detailed lithographic image of a half-exposed woman with a shield representing a different state. The back of each card features a checklist of the set. This very scarce issue is rarely seen as a complete set, and is highly prized by nineteenth-century nonsport tobacco-card collectors. Total: 25 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+.
