1890 N23 Allen & Ginter "Song Birds of the World" SGC-Graded Complete Set (50)

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,066.50

Complete fifty-card set of N23 Allen & Ginter "Song Birds of the World." Issued with Allen & Ginter Cigarettes, each card features a beautifully rendered multicolor illustration of birds from all different areas of the world. The reverse displays a checklist of all the cards in the set along with advertising for Allen & Ginter at the bottom. Each card has been graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submitted by REA). SGC grading composite: One EX/NM 80, five EX+ 70, ten EX 60, six VG/EX+ 55, three VG/EX 50, three VG+ 45, seven VG 40, three GOOD+ 35, seven GOOD 30, four FAIR 20, and one POOR 10. Many of the lesser graded examples present far better than their technically accurate assigned grades might imply but have been downgraded due to small areas of paper loss or glue residue on the reverse, both very common among nineteenth-century cards. This is a very bright, clean, and extremely attractive complete set of this classic nonsport issue. Total: 50 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $1,066.50
