1911 T3 Turkey Red #9 Ty Cobb

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,133.00

Graded FAIR 20 by SGC. Very attractive low-grade T3 of Ty Cobb, the key card of the 1911 Turkey Red Tobacco cabinet-card series. This card was one of the highlights of a large, totally untouched collection of 1910-era tobacco cards consigned to this auction, which was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. Turkey Reds are considered by many to be the most beautiful and well made tobacco set ever issued. Cobb is not just the most valuable card in the set, it also one of the most well known and popular of all Ty Cobb cards. This example is bright and crisp, both front and back, with bold colors, perfect registration, and no major creases affecting the image area (two light surface creases in the borders). There is a small, insignificant glue stain to the right of Cobb's pants. The lower left corner is damaged. Technically in FAIR condition, this is a card which, aside from the lower left corner being damaged, displays as Vg-Ex condition, and provides a relatively affordable alternative to a far more expensive high-grade example without compromising on all of the most important display value qualities of the card. This is a very impressive looking, technically low-grade example of one of card collecting's most classic cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++. SOLD FOR $2,133.00
