First Issue of Playboy Magazine CGC VF- 7.5

Starting Bid - $2,000.00, Sold For - $6,517.50

First issue of Playboy magazine in an extremely high grade. Graded VF- 7.5 (White Pages) by CGC. This is the finest example of this iconic first issue that we have ever offered, and one that was downgraded from an even higher grade primarily due to a tiny diagonal crease in the lower right corner of the front cover. Otherwise it displays only the most modest handling wear, with white interior pages. As a point of reference, another first issue of Playboy magazine graded an identical VF- 7.5 by CGC sold at Heritage Auctions for $5,600 in July 2012. Playboy magazine will forever be recognized for its social significance in reflecting as well as contributing to popular American culture. Issue number one, featuring Marilyn Monroe on the cover, is one of the most recognizable images of popular culture and Americana. As such, it has long been highly prized by collectors in many diverse fields. This particular issue has been part of our consignor's collection for decades and was only just recently submitted for grading by REA. This is an outstanding example in all respects. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000+. SOLD FOR $6,517.50
