1968 Johnny Cash Concert Poster and Signed Sun Records Program

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $948.00

Broadside heralding the arrival of "The Fabulous Johnny Cash Show" at the KRNT Theater in Des Moines, Iowa, on April 21st. The poster, printed on thick cardboard stock, pictures a full-length image of Johnny Cash as well as portrait images of June Carter and Carl Perkins. Also appearing on the show were The Tennessee Three, Mother Maybelle & Carter Family, and the Statler Brothers. Although the poster is undated, research indicates that Cash appeared at the KRNT Theater on Sunday, April 21st, in both 1968 and 1974; however, given the performers listed it can only date from 1968 (the Statler Brothers left Cash's show in 1972). The broadside (14 x 22 inches) displays light water staining (mainly in the border areas) and minor surface wear, neither of which detracts from its overall Excellent appearance. Accompanying the poster is a circa 1957 Johnny Cash Souvenir Folio, issued as a promotional piece by Sun Records, inscribed by Cash on the front in pencil: "My best to you/Johnny Cash." Both the inscription and signature grade "9/10." The four-page folio features a short biography of Cash along with pictures of him on stage and at home with his family. The back cover makes note that Cash is an "Exclusive Sun Recording Artist." The folio (8.5 x 11 inches) is lightly toned and otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition. Total: 2 items (broadside and folio). LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500++. SOLD FOR $948.00
