Circa 1960 Patsy Cline Concert Poster
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $355.50
Broadside announcing a concert by a touring troupe from the Grand Ole Opry, including Pasty Cline, at the KRNT Theater in Des Moines, Iowa, on Sunday, September 23. In addition to Cline, the poster also lists Hank Snow and his Rainbow Ranch Boys, Bobby Lord, Carl Belew and the Willis Bros. Cline, who was one of the greatest female vocalists of her day, died at the age of thirty in 1963 when the airplane she was riding in crashed after encountering inclement weather. Although no year is listed, the fact that Cline became a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 1960 and does not have top billing on the card almost certainly dates it precisely to 1960. By 1961 Cline was one of the top female headliners in the country and in 1962 became the first woman to headline her own show in Las Vegas. The broadside (14 x 22 inches) is printed on thin paper stock that was then affixed to a heavier cardboard backing (as was the common procedure at the time). Over time, portions of the paper overlay (mainly along the edges) have since detached from the cardboard backing, but the integrity of the piece has not been compromised. There are a few small border tears throughout, and the top border displays light water damage. Nearly all of the aforementioned flaws can be easily matted out, and the central image remains Excellent in its appearance. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $355.50
