1961 Marilyn Monroe Signed Check
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,962.50
Marilyn Monroe Productions, Inc., business check, dated October 23, 1961, signed by Marilyn Monroe. The check, drawn on the Bankers Trust Company of New York, is made out to “Internal Revenue Service” in the amount of $290.45 and is signed “Marilyn Monroe” in blue ink (grading “9/10”) along the base. Monroe was ill for most of the year in 1961, having had surgery twice in the spring, and was basically recuperating at the time this check was written. Only a very limited number of Marilyn Monroe checks exist. Almost all surfaced approximately thirteen years ago and this small supply has practically vanished into collections. Marilyn Monroe is one of the most forged of all celebrity signatures, giving these checks all the more special significance to collectors. We can't help but think that these Marilyn Monroe checks will continue to increase in value in the years to come. This is an outstanding Marilyn Monroe Productions check example, dating less than a year before her death in August 1962. The check (8.25 x 3 inches) displays normal bank cancellation marks, as well as a few tiny edge tears along the right border. In Excellent condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,962.50
