1928 W. A. & A. C. Churchman "Famous Golfers" (Large) Second Series Complete Set (12)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,251.50

Extremely attractive complete twelve-card set of 1928 W. A. & A. C. Churchman "Famous Golfers - 2nd Series of 12" cards, highlighted by the legendary Tom Morris. Each card has been graded and encapsulated by PSA with an average grade of 5.69. This is an outstanding set which has been assembled by a dedicated and condition-conscious collector over a period of years. The PSA grades are as follows: One NM-MT 8: #7 Massy. Two NM 7: #8 Morris (HOF) and 11 Tolley. One EX-MT+ 6.5: #4 Gadd. One EX-MT 6: #1 Barnes (HOF). Five EX 5: #2 Boomer, 3 Compston, 9 Simpson, 10 Sweetser, and 12 Whitcombe. Two GOOD 2: #5 Havers and 6 Jolly. The lesser-graded examples all present very well but show minor handling wear against the fragile stock, with light creasing and a small area of paper loss on the two GOOD examples. This is a very sharp-looking complete set in mid-to-high grade of one of the most highly prized golf sets of the era. The SMR value for the individual cards (excluding the two graded GOOD) is $2,365. Total: 12 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,251.50
