1928 Crescent Confectionery #94 Bobby Jones PSA EX 5 - Highest Graded!
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $9,480.00
Graded EX 5 by PSA. Only two examples have ever been graded by PSA and SGC with this being the highest graded (the other is a PSA VG-EX 4). Presented is an outstanding example of an important golf-card extreme rarity: golf legend Bobby Jones from the 1928 Crescent Confectionery Sportsmen set. This set, which contains one hundred cards featuring notable sports figures, was produced by the British Crescent Confectionery company. The set was issued with cigarettes, contrary to what the company name might suggest, and is very rare. Golf Hall of Famers Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen are the keys to the set, which features primarily British sporting stars. This is an extremely early card of Jones, issued two years before his incredible 1930 Grand Slam, a feat that has not been duplicated since. On the offered card, Jones is featured in a black-and-white portrait pose set between the printed company name at top and the nameplate "Bobby Jones - Golf Champion" at bottom. This is a striking example with a crisp image. Centered slightly towards the bottom. The card is free of any wrinkles or creases. The corners display light, even wear. The blank reverse is clean. This exceedingly rare 1920s Bobby Jones card is on almost every golf collector's wantlist and would make a significant addition to any world-class golf card or Bobby Jones collection. The SMR value for this card is $5,000. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+. SOLD FOR $9,480.00
