1909-1910 E97 C. A. Briggs Co. Charlie Hemphill - SGC NM 84 - Highest Graded!

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,777.50

Graded NM 84 by SGC. Highest graded example by SGC! Exceptional high-grade example of New York Highlanders outfielder Charlie Hemphill in a batting pose from the extremely rare E97 C. A. Briggs Co. series. This 30-card set was issued in 1909-1910 by the C. A. Briggs Co. This set is closely related to several other candy sets from the era, which share the same format, and, in many cases, the same player image. The cards are very similar in design but much rarer than their E93 counterparts (of "Black Swamp Find" fame) and can easily be distinguished from E93 by the attractive brown-printed checklist of the complete set and the advertisement for "C. A. Briggs Co., Lozenge Makers, Boston, Mass." along the bottom on the reverse of each card. As is the case with most 1910-era tobacco and “E” card issues, E97 C. A. Briggs Company cards each measure approximately 1.5 x 2.75 inches. The card is bright and crisp, with vibrant colors, four sharp corners, and centered to the left with a very slight tilt to the image. The checklist on the back is printed in bold brown ink. This is an exceptionally attractive and extremely high-grade E97 C. A. Briggs Company sample. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,777.50
