Extremely Rare 1948 Leaf Boxing #50 Rocky Graziano - Highest Graded!

Starting Bid - $5,000.00, Sold For - $38,512.50

Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Highest-graded example by SGC! Offered is an extremely attractive strong example of one of the most legendary rarities in all of card collecting: #50 Rocky Graziano from the 1948 Leaf Boxing series. This is only the second 1948 Leaf Graziano we have ever had the privilege of offering! To the best of our knowledge, fewer than ten examples of the legendary 1948 Rocky Graziano exist. The reasons for the great rarity of Graziano are shrouded in mystery (similar to the T206 Wagner and Plank). One popular explanation, which some say has basis in fact, is that Graziano wanted more money to have his image appear in Leaf's boxing-card set. However, there may be something to this legend since Graziano is also excluded from the 1951 Topps Ringside boxing set. The card is bright and clean, with even wear on the corners, exceptional registration, brilliant colors, and is free of major creases. Centered 60/40 left to right and 55/45 top to bottom (which is exceptional for a 1948 Leaf; centering issues are very common with 1948 Leafs in general). The card presents very strongly and is a particularly attractive example for the grade, without any significant imperfections affecting Graziano's image. The reverse is clean and free of staining, and with just a hint of excess print (of no consequence and mentioned for strictly the sake of accuracy). This is an extremely attractive example of one of card collecting's most legendary rarities, and a card that would be a highlight in even the world's most advanced and finest collection. The only other 1948 Leaf #50 Graziano that we have ever had the privilege of offering was presented in REA's May 2011 auction (Lot 1542). That example, which was graded EX 5 by PSA, sold for $41,125. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000/$15,000+. SOLD FOR $38,512.50
