1973 Topps Football Vending Case
Starting Bid - $5,000.00, Sold For - $26,662.50
Complete (minus one box) original 1973 Topps Football vending case containing twenty-three boxes with 500 cards per box for a total of 11,500 cards. This case was purchased by our consignor in 1973 and has been carefully stored in unopened form for the past forty years! Interestingly, he started buying cases of every available Topps baseball issue in 1968. As a result, he had many cases, all of which were sold back in the 1970s. This case was one of only two football cases he ever purchased (both 1973 Topps) and he saved them by accident! The other case (containing twenty-four as opposed to twenty-three 500-count boxes) appeared as Lot 1302 in REA's May 2012 auction, selling for $32,588. The 1973 Topps Football set includes many Hall of Famers such as Harris (rookie card), Ham (rookie card), Bradshaw, Unitas, Namath, Staubach, Stabler (rookie card), and all the other stars of the day. While it is impossible to provide guarantees with reference to grading of vending material, it would be hard to imagine that this case does not include a generous supply of Mint 9s and Gem Mint 10s of every player in the set. The side of the case is split open (so one can actually see the vending boxes of cards inside if desired) but all the original boxes are intact and guaranteed unopened and unsearched. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000++. SOLD FOR $26,662.50
