1965-1968 Roberto Clemente Pro-Model Bat
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $3,851.25
Roberto Clemente signature-model "G105" bat dating from the 1965-1968 manufacturing period. Ideally, the bat features Clemente's uniform number ("21") written in faded black marker on both the end of the knob and the barrel end. The bat, which is not cracked, displays game-ready to light use, including light barrel scuffing. Clemente was at the peak of his career during the four-year period 1965-1968, winning two of his four batting titles as well as the MVP Award in 1966. A great humanitarian as well as an accomplished ballplayer, Clemente died tragically in a plane crash in 1972 while flying relief supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua. The following year he became the first Hispanic ballplayer elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame (the Hall waived its normal five-year waiting period in his honor). Clemente is one of the "magic" names in baseball history, and his game bats are rare and highly prized by collectors. This is a particularly exceptional example dating from the prime of his extraordinary career. Length: 36 inches. Weight: 38 ounces. LOA from John Taube and Vince Malta of PSA/DNA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+. SOLD FOR $3,851.25
