1968 Nellie Fox Washington Senators Game-Used Cap

Washington Senators cap worn by Hall of Fame second baseman Nellie Fox during his tenure as a coach with the club between the years 1968 and 1971. Ideally, this cap originates directly from the Nellie Fox family and is accompanied by a typed letter of provenance, dated June 10, 1998, from Fox's wife. In full: "To Whom It May Concern: The following item(s) belonged to my late husband, baseball great and member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, Jacob Nelson Fox: - Nellie's 1968 Washington Senators Game Worn Cap. Notations under the brim and in the band were made by me in 1976. The above is 100% authentic and original. Please enjoy and treasure it as much as I have. Sincerely, Mrs. Nelson Fox [signed]." The red wool cap features a white-and-blue embroidered "W" on the front. A "Wilson" label is located along the interior cloth headband. The notations on the underside of the brim (as noted in Mrs. Fox's letter as having been written by her) read "Nellie Fox/Coach/Senators/68-71." Those written on the headband read "Nellie Fox/Nats/Coach 1968." Reserve $200 Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $296.25
