Circa 1953 Philadelphia A's Batboy Jersey
Starting Bid - $100.00, Sold For - $177.75
Philadelphia A's home jersey issued to one of the team's batboys, circa 1953. The white flannel jersey is lettered "A" on the left chest in black felt. A "Pearson" label appears in the collar. Located on the left front tail are the numbers "42" and "5," each chain-stitched in black on a separate white strip tag, which denote, respectively, the size and uniform number. Although no number remains on the reverse, an outline of the original number "5," as well a subsequent number "3," are each clearly evident. The jersey is original and displays no other alterations aside from the removal of the uniform numbers on the reverse. Moderate wear is evident, including a few light scattered stains. It should be noted that although the size was originally "42," the jersey has shrunk with age and is probably now one or two sizes smaller. Despite the lack of a year tag, this particular jersey style was only used by the club for the two-year period 1952 and 1953. Also, when our consignor originally obtained this jersey (directly from the family of the original owner), he was told it was used during the 1953 season. While not an actual player jersey, this is an outstanding Philadelphia A's style jersey dating from the early 1950s. Reserve $100. Estimate $200/$400. SOLD FOR $177.75
