Pair of 1950s Willie Mays PM10 Stadium Pins
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $474.00
Two extremely desirable PM10 stadium pins of Willie Mays, from two different highly desirable and widely collected sets that were sold as souvenirs at the Polo Grounds in the 1950s. 1) The first (1.75 inches in diameter) is from a circa 1954 series and features a portrait image of Mays and reads "New York Giants" along the top and "Willie Mays" below. A small, orange ribbon is attached to the pin, from which hangs a tiny metal charm in the form of a baseball bat. Ex. 2) The second, larger pin (2.25 inches in diameter) was issued circa 1956 and pictures a close-up portrait image of Mays with his name, "Willie Mays," above. Most PM10 stadium pins measure the standard 1.75 inches in diameter. The 2.25-inch series pins are considerably rarer than their smaller counterparts, possibly because they were more expensive, or possibly because they simply were produced and offered on only a very limited basis. This particular Willie Mays PM10 is also of special note as it was originally issued with the New York Giants insignia on Mays' cap, which was later changed to a San Francisco Giants insignia after the 1957 season. The offered example is the earlier style, featuring the New York Giants insignia. Small scratch in the "e" in "Willie," otherwise Excellent. Total: 2 pins. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+.
