1922-1923 PB4 Kolb's Mothers' Bread Complete Set (32)

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $711.00

Complete set of 1922-1923 PB4 Kolb's Mothers' Bread pins. This scarce pin set features portrait images of members of the Reading Baseball Club of the International League. Each pin reads "Kolb's Mothers' Bread" along the top in red and identifies the player (last name only) below his respective image. Manager Chief Bender is the only Hall of Fame player in the set, but many other future or former Major Leaguers are featured, including Al Schacht, Nig Clarke, Al Mamaux, Pat Martin, and Walt Smallwood. All of the pins (.875 inches in diameter) retain their original paper backing (identifying the manufacturer, Bastian Bros. Co., of Rochester, N.Y.), with the exception of four: Gilhooley, Gordonier, Martin, and Wolfe. This is an extremely strong set in terms of condition. Pins range from Ex to NM, averaging Ex-Mt (with the exception of one, Mamaux, due to foxing). Great-looking complete set of this fascinating, high-quality, unusual, and extremely scarce minor-league pin issue from the early 1920s. Total: 32 pins. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+.
