1922 New York Giants/Yankees World Series Press Pin

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $5,036.25

Press pin issued for the 1922 World Series between the New York Yankees and New York Giants. Because both clubs called the Polo Grounds home in 1922, only one press pin was issued for the Series. This is a particularly rare press pin, and we can only recall having offered just one other example in the past fifteen years (Lot 1353 in our May 2011 auction which sold for $8,813). The oval pin features a blue enamel center displaying a crossed-bat-and-ball design and the lettering "Giants/Yankees/1922." The lettering along the white border reads "World Series Polo Grounds New York Press." The Giants swept the Yankees in the "fall classic" to capture their second consecutive World Championship and their final title under manager John McGraw. Manufactured by Whitehead & Hoag; brooch. Approximately 1 x .5 inches. The pin displays wear and tarnishing along the gold-colored perimeter and reverse. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+. SOLD FOR $5,036.25
