Circa 1960 One-Dozen Unopened Official National League (Giles) Baseballs in Original Retail Box
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,659.00
Collection of twelve Spalding No. 1 Official National League (Giles) balls, each still sealed in its individual unopened box and housed in an original Spalding one-dozen-count retail box. Giles was National League president from 1952 through 1969. During that period, in 1958, the design of the ball underwent a slight change. However, because the offered balls are sealed, it is impossible to narrow their date of origin from the general eighteen-year manufacturing period. Two of the individual ball boxes display a piece of clear tape across the top tab (not in repair of any tear), but neither box has ever been opened. A third individual ball box displays a piece of clear tape on a side panel running across the bottom flap (not in repair of any tear). Nine of the ball boxes display a price-tag label on the bottom (not vintage; dealer label from modern times), and a few are toned, with one having a water stain along the base and side panels. Excellent condition overall. The one-dozen-count retail box (11.75 x 9.25 x 3 inches) displays partial separation along the perforated hinged flap, as well as an ink scribble on the interior lid. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,659.00
