1950s South Bend Blue Sox (AAGPBBL) Collection Including Four Jean Faut Signed Items

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $592.50

Diverse collection of rare material, including many signed pieces, relating to the South Bend Blue Sox of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBBL). Among the highlights are two pieces signed by Jean Faut, who was the greatest pitcher in the history of the league. Faut spent her entire eight-year professional career (1946-1953) with the Blue Sox. During that time she compiled a lifetime record of 140-64 (second-most wins in league history) with a 1.23 ERA (all-time best mark). In addition to pitching two perfect games and four no hitters, she also won twenty or more games three times, was named Player of the Year twice, won two pitching Triple Crowns, and appeared in four All-Star Games. Her dominance on the mound help lead the Blue Sox to consecutive championships in 1951 and 1952. 1) 1953 photo (3.5 x 6 inches) of Faut striking a pitching pose on the sidelines. Signed by Faut in pencil (grading "10") on the reverse. Interestingly, this photo appears to be a reverse negative print, as it pictures Faut as a left hander (she was right handed). Ex-Mt. 2) Circa 1951 South Bend Blues team photo (10 x 8 inches). Signed on the reverse in pencil ("9/10") by eleven team members, including Faut, Baumgartner, and Dunn. Vg. 3) 1952 South Bend Blues team photo (10 x 8 inches). Signed on the reverse in pencil and pen ("9/10") by eighteen team members, including Faut, Hoffman, Baumgartner, Dunn, and Pryor. Vg. 4-6) Three 1953 South Bend Blue Sox scorecards (8.25 x 11.75 inches), each signed on the front in pencil, respectively, by a) Barbara Gates (Chicks), Doris Cook, Gertie Dunn, and Renae Youngberg; b) Betty Foss (Daisies) and Lois Youngen; and c) Dolly Pearson. All of the scorecards are scored and grade Ex. 7) 1952 South Bend Blue Sox scorecard (8.25 x 12.25 inches). Signed on the front in pencil ("9") by fourteen players, including Faut, Hoffmann, Leonard, and Baumgartner. Scored. Vg. 8) 1951 South Bend Blue Sox scorecard (8.25 x 12.25 inches). Vg. 9) 1954 South Bend Blue Sox scorecard (6 x 9 inches). Partially scored. Vg. 10) 1953 photo (3.5 x 6 inches) of Amy Applegren striking a fielding pose. Signed by Applegren in pencil (grading "10") on the reverse. Ex. 11) Circa 1951-1954 Official AAGPBBL baseball (Fred Leo - president). The ball displays moderate wear throughout, as well as a few badly faded signatures (illegible). Vg. 12) 1950s Grand Rapid Chicks/South Bend Blue Sox double-sided lineup card (3 x 5 inches). Vg. 13) 1950s paper lineup card listing the lineups for the Blue Sox, the Rockford Peaches, and the Kalamazoo Lassies (8.2 x 4.25 inches). Ex-Mt. Total: 13 items. LOA from James Spence/JSA.
