1910 D380 Clement Bros. Bread Addie Joss

Starting Bid - $2,500.00, Sold For - $6,517.50

Graded FAIR 20 by SGC. Addie Joss from the extremely rare 1910 D380 Clement Bros. Bread series. This is an incredible card and one of the few that would stop even the most advanced collector in his tracks. This D380 Clement Bros. Bread of Hall of Famer Addie Joss was the highlight of an extraordinary newly discovered collection of thirty-six D380 Clement Bros. cards which were sold at REA in 2008. The collection had been saved for decades by the family of the original owner. When the collection came to us, we were surprised to see Joss was even checklisted in D380, as we were not aware that Joss was in the Clement Bros. set. We had never seen one or even heard anyone mention the existence of this extremely significant card before. We have yet to see another beyond this example! Joss tragically passed away from meningitis on April 14, 1911, cutting short one of baseball's greatest careers. This is easily one of his rarest cards. This is also an especially fascinating card as Joss is presented in the identical portrait pose as found in E90-1 American Caramel series, but is featured in a black-and-white rendition of this design. Clement Bros. Bakery cards were regionally issued only in Rochester, New York. All Clement Bros. Bread cards are extremely rare. This is a very attractive card. We grade this card Good, with rounded corners, no major creases, some light staining, and pencil notations on the reverse. The back of the card features advertising for Clement Bros. Bakery's bread and pies. This is an exceptional example of this incredible rarity that would make an outstanding addition to any prewar, Hall of Fame, or type card collection. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+. SOLD FOR $6,517.50
