Original Acme news photo of Mickey Mantle breaking up a double play at second base against the Chicago White Sox during his 1951 rookie season. Original "in action" on-the-field photos of Mantle during his rookie season are naturally quite rare. Encapsulated and designated a "Type I" photo by PSA/DNA. The original paper news caption, dated "9/19/51," remains affixed to the reverse and identifies the the two White Sox players as Nellie Fox and Chico Carrasquel, and the umpire as Bill Summers. An "Acme News Pictures" credit appears on the reverse as well. The photo (7 x 9 inches) has a small corner crease in the upper right; otherwise in Excellent condition. Reserve $100. Estimate $200+.
