1941 Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams Original News Photo "Season of Glory" - PSA/DNA Type 1
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $533.25
Original news photo of Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams taken at Yankee Stadium in 1941. Encapsulated and certified as a "Type 1 Original News Service Photograph" by PSA/DNA. Both DiMaggio and Williams, never known for their effervescent personalities, are all smiles on this occasion as they mug for the camera prior to a game. 1941, of course, was the defining season for each of the Hall of Fame outfielders. Joe DiMaggio captivated an entire nation during that historic summer, as he shattered Willie Keeler's long-standing record by hitting in 56 consecutive games. At season's end it was Williams' turn to take the baseball world by storm as he finished the season with a .406 batting average. To date, no player has yet been able to surpass either mark. An "Associated Press Photo" stamp appears on the reverse, as do a few editorial pencil notations. The original paper news caption is no longer present. The photo (9 x 7 inches) displays a number of minor flaws common to working press photos, including two small border tears (one of which is repaired on the reverse with masking tape), a large diagonal crease in the lower right corner, and minor creasing along all four edges. In Very Good condition overall. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $533.25
