1933 All-Star Game Program and Ticket Stub (2)
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,896.00
Official program and ticket stub from the first Major League All-Star Game, held on July 6, 1933, at Comiskey Park in Chicago. 1) The fold-over program pictures White Sox president J. Louis Comiskey on the cover, while the preprinted scorecard on the interior features the starting lineups for both teams, including Ruth and Gehrig for the American League and Paul Waner and Bill Terry for the National League. The program has not been scored, but the names of Grove for the American League and Hallahan for the Nationals, have been neatly written in pencil in the respective pitcher's box of each team's lineup. (Hallahan was the starting pitcher for the National League, but Lefty Gomez was the starter for the American League. Lefty Grove pitched the final three innings.) The program (6 x 9 inches) displays a heavy vertical center fold and a moderate horizontal fold; otherwise in Excellent condition. 2) The ticket stub (2.25 x 2 inches) is for a "Grand Stand Box" and features a vintage pencil notation on the reverse that reads "Game of Century/July 6, 1933." The stub displays a few light creases and is in Very Good condition overall. Encapsulated and labeled "Authentic" by PSA. The 1933 All-Star Game featured what many consider to have been the greatest assembly of baseball talent to ever take the field in a single game. Seventeen future Hall of Famers made appearances in the game, including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Frank Frisch, Chuck Klein, Chick Hafey, Bill Terry, Paul Waner, Pie Traynor, Gabby Hartnett, and Carl Hubbell. Connie Mack and John McGraw served as managers for their respective leagues. Babe Ruth hit the first homer in All-Star game history. Frisch provided the NL offense, with a two-run homer in the sixth inning, but the combined talents of Lefty Gomez and Babe Ruth allowed the American League to prevail, 4-2. This is an outstanding pairing from that historic inaugural game and one that is perfect for display together. Total: 2 items (program and ticket stub). Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+.
