Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $4,740.00
Original Associated Press news photo capturing the 1936 World Champion New York Yankees in a classic team pose. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA and certified as an "Original Type 1 News Service Photograph." Twenty-eight members of the club are pictured here posing together in front of the grandstands at Yankee Stadium, including Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, manager Joe McCarthy, Earle Combs, Tony Lazzeri, Lefty Gomez, and Red Ruffing. The original Associated Press paper news caption, which is dated "9/21/36" and lists the players pictured, has been reaffixed to the reverse by means of vintage clear tape. A "May 22 1958" date stamp appears on the reverse. Also on the reverse is a handwritten editorial notation in blue pencil that reads "Spts - baseball - N.Y. Yankees - 1936." The Yankees defeated their crosstown rivals, the New York Giants, in six games in the 1936 World Series, thus marking the start of four consecutive World Championships for the "Bronx Bombers." The photo (9 x 7 inches) displays a few extremely minor border creases and is otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition. Reserve $200. Estimate $300+. SOLD FOR $4,740.00
