1927 Photo Ty Cobb, Connie Mack, Thomas Edison (YouTube Photo-Matched!!!)
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $592.50
Original photo of Ty Cobb, as a member of the Philadelphia Athletics, posing together with famed inventor Thomas Edison and manager Connie Mack during spring training in 1927 at Fort Myers, Florida. We have found a similar Corbis photo of the three posing together, with caption for that photo reading: "3/9/1927-Fort Myers, FL: Thomas A. Edison, the electrical wizard, visits the spring training camp of the Philadelphia Athletics at Fort Myers to witness the ball players working out. Photo shows (L to R): Ty Cobb, Thomas Edison, and Connie Mack watching the players practice." Amazingly, we have found actual film footage of this get-together posted at YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNR0z9UkiMo). If you watch the entire three-minute segment there is also a funny scene of Cobb softly pitching a ball to Edison at close distance, with Edison nearly taking Cobb's head off as he hits the ball. 1927 marked both Cobb's first year with the Athletics and his penultimate season in the Majors. The photo (5.25 x 3.5 inches) displays a heavy diagonal crease in the upper right corner as well as a few additional surface wrinkles. In apparent Very Good condition overall. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 12 x 10 inches. Reserve $200. Estimate $400++. SOLD FOR $592.50
