Original news photo capturing the 1928 World Champion New York Yankees in a classic team pose. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA and certified as an "Original Type 1 News Service Photograph." Pictured here posing together in front of the grandstands in the their road uniforms are twenty-eight members of the club, including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, manager Miller Huggins, Earle Combs, Wait Hoyt, Tony Lazzeri, Leo Durocher, Bill Dickey, Bob Meusel, and Mark Koenig. An Underwood & Underwood credit stamp appears on the reverse, as does the date stamp "Oct 3-1928." Also affixed to the reverse is the original paper news caption, titled "1928 Champions of the American League -- Yankees Will Battle St. Louis For World Title," which also provides the name of each player pictured. A few additional pencil notations and stampings appear on the reverse. The Yankees swept the Cardinals in four games, thereby establishing the 1927/1928 Yankees as one of baseball's greatest dynasties. The photo (10 x 8 inches) displays a few extremely minor border creases and is otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,500+. SOLD FOR $5,332.50
