1926 National League "Golden Jubilee" Presentation Baseball and Dinner Program

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,133.00

On February 2, 1926, the National League celebrated its 50th anniversary by holding a festive banquet at the Hotel Astor in New York. To commemorate the occasion, attendees at the dinner received a special boxed set of two official National League baseballs and a beautiful large-format program. Offered here is one of the baseballs from that boxed set and the program, complete with the original insert listing the order of the guest speakers. 1) Golden Jubilee Ball. In the boxed set there were two baseballs. One was a plain official National League ball (for obtaining autographs) and the other was this special relic: an official National League (Haydler) ball that is decorated with small sepia portraits of each of the past eight presidents of the league. The presidents featured on the ball, in order, are Morgan Bulkeley, William Hulbert, Abraham Mills, Nicholas Young, Harry Pulliam, Thomas Lynch, John Tener, and John Heydler. The ball features a light, blue-ink notation on the side panel that reads "Baseball/from 1925," otherwise it remains in Excellent to Mint condition, with all of the portraits intact. 2) Golden Jubilee Program. The large-format sixteen-page program features a history of the National League and its clubs, numerous photos, and special articles/tributes written by many of the top sportswriters of the day, including Grantland Rice, Fred Lieb, and Bozeman Bulger. The menu for the evening serves as the first page. Included with the program is a special insert listing the guest speakers that night, including John Heydler, A. G. Mills, John Tener, Kenesaw Landis, and Jimmy Walker, mayor of New York. The program (9 x 12 inches), which is complete with its original string binding, displays a small ink mark on the cover, as well as a few slight surface wrinkles and minor blemishes. In Excellent condition overall. This is an exceptional pair of items, each a prize item in its own right, commemorating the National League's 50th Anniversary. Total: 2 items (ball and program). Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,133.00
