Complete fourteen-volume "Baseball Joe" series, each featuring illustrated cloth boards and a dust jacket, published by Cupples & Leon Company of New York between the years 1912 and 1928. During the early teens and 1920s nearly every young boy was familiar with the "Baseball Joe" series written by Lester Chadwick (pseudonym for author Howard Garis). Similar to the Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew books, the "Baseball Joe" series chronicled the fictional rise of young Joe Matson from his beginnings on the sandlot, through his years at Yale and then the minor leagues, and finally to his days as a Major League star. The series ran for seventeen years, beginning in 1912 and ending in 1928, and is comprised of fourteen volumes, all of which are offered here. None of the volumes are first editions, but instead represent slightly later printings. Each of the fourteen books includes a dust jacket, but none are first-edition dust jackets. Like the volumes themselves, each dust jacket is from a slightly later printing. The series is comprised of the following numbered volumes: 1) Baseball Joe of the Silver Stars (1912); 2) Baseball Joe on the School Nine (1912); 3) Baseball Joe at Yale (1913); 4) Baseball Joe in the Central League (1914); 5) Baseball Joe in the Big League (1915); 6) Baseball Joe on the Giants (1916); 7) Baseball Joe in the World Series (1917); 8) Baseball Joe Around the World (1918); 9) Baseball Joe Home Run King (1922); 10) Baseball Joe Saving the League (1923); 11) Baseball Joe Captain of the Team (1924); 12) Baseball Joe Champion of the League (1925); 13) Baseball Joe Club Owner (1926); and Baseball Joe Pitching Wizard (1928). Four of the books feature the name of a former owner written on the interior and some also display light foxing on some of the pages. All remain tightly bound and display moderate wear. The pages all are generally clean and bright, with no significant tears. In Excellent condition overall. The fourteen dust jackets display varying degrees of wear, including small tears and edge chips, and are in overall Very Good to Excellent condition. Each dust jacket is now protected by a Mylar book covering. This is a rare complete offering of this once popular baseball series that is seldom seen today. Total: 14 books. Reserve $200.
