1916-2011 Near-Complete Run of Who's Who in Baseball in Bound Volumes (95 Annual Editions)

Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,422.00

Although Who's Who in Baseball, which was published by the Baseball Magazine Co., made a singular appearance on newsstands in 1912, it was not until four years later, in 1916, that it officially began its life as an annual publication (it is still published today). Offered here is a near-complete run of Who's Who in Baseball, beginning with the 1916 issue and continuing through 2011, missing only 1912 and 1917 for completion (photo copies of both of those issues are included here). All of the issues through 1968 have been collectively bound in seven different books. The bound volumes offered here are 1916-1923, 1924-1931, 1932-1939, 1940-1947, 1948-1954, 1955-1961, and 1962-1968. The remaining issues, 1969-2011, are not bound and remain in their original as issued soft-cover state. In addition to presenting a voluminous amount of information about the players featured, Who's Who in Baseball has always been appreciated by collectors for its covers, which normally featured the top performer or performers of the previous season. Among the many luminaries who have appeared on the cover are Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Hank Greenberg, Ted Williams, Stan Musial, and Mickey Mantle. While we understand that the bound volumes have naturally lost some of their inherent display value, the worth of this comprehensive Who's Who in Baseball library for reading and research remains intact and is enhanced by their professionally bound form. This remains an incredible collection of this popular annual, which is seldom, if ever, offered as a near-complete run. The pre-1990 issues are in Very Good condition overall, displaying wear commensurate with their age and fragile nature, including tears, minor creases, and edge wear to the covers. The vast majority of the issues dating from the 1940s through the 1960s display interior pencil notations; otherwise the pages are generally clean and free of any significant flaws. The issues dating from 1990 through 2011 are in Near Mint condition overall. Total: 95 annual editions (presented in seven bound volumes), plus two copies (1912 and 1917). Reserve $400. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,422.00
