Circa 1910-1915 Chicago Cubs Oversized Pennant

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,370.00

Extremely rare, unusual, and impressive Cubs pennant, dating from the teens. This is the only example of this oversized Cubs pennant we have ever seen or handled. It originally appeared as Lot 485 in our May 2004 auction, where at that time it realized a final sales price of $2,185. It has been proudly displayed on the wall of the winner since and has been consigned to this auction directly by that purchaser. The pennant features an applied full-color image of a bear cub in a batting stance, with "Cubs" in blue lettering against a white bat silhouette. The colors are extremely vibrant, especially given the age of the pennant, with very little cracking to the design application. Back in the early part of the 1910s, when this pennant was issued, the Cubs were a force to be reckoned with, having won 90 or more games for the ninth consecutive year in 1912. The pennant is exceptionally attractive and of very high quality. The fancy tassels on the left edge are fully intact. There is a small bite at the pennant's tip, possibly as made, otherwise the pennant is in spectacular Excellent condition. Ideal for display as intended! Height: 13.5 inches. Length: 35 inches. Mounted and framed to total dimensions of 47.5 x 19 inches. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $2,370.00
