1910 Burke and Atwell Philadelphia Athletics Team Postcard

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $533.25

Team composite postcard (5.5 x 4 inches) featuring twenty-two members of the Philadelphia Athletics along with their manager, Connie Mack. Among the team members pictured are five Hall of Famers: Frank Baker, Chief Bender, Eddie Collins, Connie Mack, and Eddie Plank. Produced by Burke and Atwell Photographers and F.J. Lupp Printer of Chicago, Illinois, this postcard presents in Vg-Ex condition on the front with even corner wear visible. The reverse shows postal use, which contributes to the special, and possibly unique, nature of this particular example. The card is postmarked from Illinois on October 24, 1910, which is the day after the Athletics defeated the Chicago Cubs in the six-game World Series. The message, addressed to someone in Pennsylvania reads "Theas (sic) are the fellows that put the bug to the Cubs. The Cubs are to sloe (sic) for the Philas." The fact that this postcard ties in so closely to its subject makes it an especially interesting and desirable example. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $533.25
